Staining

Staining and Clear Finishes

Colourfast Painting & Decorating have completed many projects were staining and varnishing were required.

Varnishing alone can bring out the natural colour of timber, depending on the type of timber. Staining is an alternative to beautifying your doors, architraves, staircases etc.

We recommend and use Sikkens products, as we find them hard wearing. Usually we apply one to two coats of Sikkens Cetol HLS Stain followed with two coats of Sikkens Supernatural Clear Finish depending on the surface.

On decks, we use Sikkens Cetol Deck Natural Transparent Finish, which gives a long lasting finish to your deck. With all decks with high foot traffic they will need periodic maintenance to keep them looking good.

We can also use Cabot’s, Wattyl, Intergrain, or any other leading brand of your choice if you prefer.

Stripping of Clear Finishes, and Stains

Previously stained – varnished timber in poor condition can be stripped back to bare timber using Citri Strip, which is pleasant smelling chemical stripper, specially designed for the removal of stains, and varnishes, which does not damage timber.

After the stain and varnish is stripped off, the timber has to be cleaned with Deckswood, or Cabot’s Woodclean which bleaches the timber. It is then washed off preferably with a high-pressure washer, and allowed to dry thoroughly prior to re-staining.
